Hi, I’m Lynda, from Scullywag Astrology. I have been fascinated with astrology since I first discovered my mother’s copy of Linda Goodman’s “Sun Signs” when I was about 10 years old.
Over the years, I read that book cover to cover and later went on to pour over Linda Goodman’s “Love Signs” and “Relationship Signs.”
I sent away for a natal chart from somewhere (back of a magazine perhaps, as this was pre-internet) and loved what I learned through that. It was in 1999, though, that I got online, and a whole astrological treasure trove became available to me.
In early 2002 I signed up for an online astrology course. I had a wonderful time learning more about this fascinating subject. I was also thrilled to attend a 5-day astrological conference – “A Marriage of Minds” in Hepburn Springs in Victoria, Australia. They had some fascinating speakers at that conference, and I met some really cool people.
I didn’t end up completing that original astrology course. I had gotten distracted with returning to part-time work, and my three young kids kept me very busy. Time got away from me, and the astrology school closed down as the owner retired. I never did lose my interest in astrology, though, and continued to learn and practice techniques over the years.
In 2016 I started my website Scullywag Astrology. It was as much a place for me to have somewhere to note down different astrological information as anything else. Writing weekly horoscopes also helped keep me aware of what was happening in the skies.
Looking back at the courses I took, it seems like I really got the learning bug again in late 2018. My kids were older and less dependent on me, and I had a little more money to spend on astrological courses.
I signed up for Steven Forrest’s “Getting Started with Evolutionary Astrology” and his “Solar Arcs” workshop via the Astrology University website. While I really loved Steven’s approach, I was starting to learn more about Hellenistic Astrology, and it really resonated with me.
I’m not sure who I discovered first, Kelly Surtees or Chris Brennan, but they soon hooked me. I signed up for Kelly’s Relationship Astrology course and her Chart Interpretations 3 course. Shortly afterward, I signed up for Chris Brennan’s Hellenistic Astrology course.
Then, I met my tribe! I was so fortunate to join a group of fellow astrologers that were part of a Zoom study group for Chris’ course during the pandemic. We have since added more Zoom study groups (you never stop learning astrology), including one to study Ben Dykes’ book on Abu Ma’Shar.
Recently, Donna (the cohost of Astro Babble) and I completed STA’s Practitioners Level Certification in Horary.
